I spent several days this year wandering around beaches on the east coast. The beaches are often disappointing as pictorial landscapes, but provide excellent opportunities when going in closer. I set about a project of photographing pebbles using the terrain as a backdrop. This small collection includes rusty metal, seaweed, storm breakers and piers as backdrops. I will find a pebble local to the particular beach and then place it in the shot and compose the image so it is balanced with the background. Sometimes using rule of thirds, sometimes breaking rules.
