I&#8217;ve  been meaning to get round to photographing oil on water after reading  Alison&#8217;s Photo Month article on ePHOTOzine: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ephotozine.com\/article\/Oil-on-Water-photography-15012\" target=\"blank\">Oil on Water<\/a>. New Years Day saw me lethargic from a previous night  of celebrations so it seemed like the perfect time to do the set up. <a href=\"https:\/\/bargh.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/oil_on_water1.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bargh.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/oil_on_water1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-277 alignnone\" title=\"oil_on_water\" src=\"https:\/\/bargh.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/oil_on_water1.jpg\" alt=\"oil on water\" width=\"450\" height=\"301\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/bargh.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/oil_on_water_setup.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-274\" style=\"margin-left:10px;\" title=\"oil_on_water_setup\" src=\"https:\/\/bargh.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/oil_on_water_setup.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"387\" \/><\/a>I used a large spice jar lid to hold the water and added some vegetable  oil. The lid was attached to a McClamp and held in place over an  upturned studio light with a softbox attached. I then placed a sheet of  polarising gel and a cd tray under the lid to give a cross polarised  colour effect background and the camera was set up over head on a  Vanguard Tripod with macro arm.
