Thanks to Robert Baker I have become interested in the world of modular synths and have bought a few pieces of kit including a Moog Semi-modular cluster. This is my first piece recorded as an iPhone video.

A very exciting two months for the Mein Glas Fabrik project, involving myself and Mark Holmes of siiiii, that got hardly any exposure in the Sheffield fanzines back in the day. First we had an appearance on Dreams To Fill The Vacuum – a 4xcd compilation from Cherry Red – that was 6radio record of the week and then news of inclusion in a Vinyl boxed set from Vinyl on Demand Records in Germany. We had to turn down a further offer of a limited run vinyl with another record co that came days later.
Frank from Vinyl on Demand posted
I am super-happy to just have agreed on a 2Lp Release next year with another Sheffield treasure / Band called
‘MEIN GLASFABRIK’
300 cps part of British Cassette Culture Vol.2 Box and 200 as Stand Alone ReleaseMein GlasFabrik are Peter Bargh on Keyboards, Percussion Electronica Radio and Mark Holmes on Guitar, Percussion Electronica Treatments.
They released 2 Tapes in 1981/82 in a very limited amount called Exotic Percussion and Death T.V. both on their own label called Incidental Music (IM 001 / IM 002)After the Two Daughters release this year this is the next of those hidden treasure-releases that screams to be re-released.
Sometimes I think there will be a ‘Day N’ coming up in which nothing can excite me anymore but then I listen to certain tapes as those two by Mein GlasFabrik and they just suck me into the reel music and just blow your mind and you have to do a release-deal.
Therefore I think ‘Day N’ will never come

I just heard that the Dreams To Fill The Vacuum’ compilation will be Lauren Laverne’s ‘Album Of The Week’ on 6Music during the week of release, December 2nd to 6th. And the experimental project I was in http://www.meinglasfabrik.com/ has a track on it. We will definitely sell more than we did the first time round!

After a long break Mark Holmes, guitarist with goth band siiiii and myself have started recording new material as Mein Glas Fabrik. Our last material was created in 1981. The new piece is an ambient journey with video footage from the Bleaklow air crash site.

An off the spur …”must try new things” moment, sent me in the direction of African Drumming…and a beginners class run by Steve Rivers of Unbeatable Energy
The class runs in an upstairs room of an old building owned by the Sheffield Transport Club. Several djembe drums are cased and ready for those without their own to grab and uncase.
We start with a warm up session involving rubbing hands over the drum skin to warm hands and drum. Then several stretches for the hands and arms.
Then we begin. First a quick instruction on how to hit/tap the drum using the flat hand for centre boom, and more of the finger tips for the edge sounds. Then we begin a basic rhythm with Steve overlaying a more detailed pattern. It’s an easy pattern to pick up and soon we’re moving into more advanced sequences…and the more experienced students take on different patterns. So a full sound begins to emerge and I, on my first ever session, am fully engrossed in a series of beats. Great fun. We learned how to do loud clapping and then applied this pattern to drumming. The session was soon over and I came away exhilarated, and with slightly sore hands.
I’m looking forward to my next session.

New track from my band Sound of Flak
“It’s all so horrible you know, the nightmare of childhood. And it only gets worse. One day you’ll wake up, and you’ll be past it. Your beautiful skin will wrinkle and shrivel up, you’ll lose your hair, your sight, your memory. Your blood will thicken, teeth turn yellow and loose. You will start to stink and fart and all your friends will be dead. You’ll succumb to arthritis, angina, senile dementia, you’ll piss yourself, shit yourself, drool at the mouth. Just pray that when this happens you’ve got someone to love you, because if you’re loved you’ll still be young.”

Craig Feetham wrote an article for Sheffield’s My Kind of Town magazine and illustrated it with a photo of our band, Glass Music from about 1979, which he mentioned in the piece.
