Photo365 – Day 60 – Smiths Flour Mill

Another shot from a series I’m building on historical building around Worksop/Sheffield
This is Smiths Flour Mill owned by one of the largest independent flour millers in the UK. Worksop has been their head office since 1906. It’s the back end taken from Canal Road with Chesterfield Canal in the foreground.

It was taken using the Olympus EP2 and 17mm lens

I’ve bumped contrast and colour using Lightroom to give it a tone mapped feel, but hopefully not too heavy.

Photo365 – Day 59 – an appointment

I had an appointment with a doctor at the hospital today to check my vascular system. As I sat in a small room waiting I thought |I’d take ma quick snap. I placed the Fuji compact camera on the floor with the timer set to two seconds and took this view. No I’m not sat on a toilet Wink

I was quite please with how aligned I’d got it.

This is part of my photo365 project, where I take a photo each day for a whole year…check out my previous entries in my blog.

Photo365 – Day 58 – ornament and fire

This is a figurine placed in front of an electric fire and then the metering exposed for the fire. The result was a silhouette of the figurine, so I used a torch to illuminate that. The first few attempts were either too bright or had reflections on the background.

This one was done with the torch firstly positioned on the left so the shadow projected on the back and then a small amount to the right to evenly balance the exposure on the face. A slow shutter speed gave me time to move the torch around during the exposure and has created the blurry flames.

Photo365 – Day 55 – shadow play

I took the Fuji point and shoot camera to work again today and got this shot as I left the office and the light was fading. It’s the disabled section of the office car park and my shadow from two floodlights. I initially tried to disguise the fact I’m holding a camera but the shape looked poor so I introduced the arm.

Photo365 – Day 54 – home page redesign

David’s sketches for the preliminary discussion about the V5 ePHOTOzine home page redesign.
I decided to shoot it at a jaunty angle and then use my cross processing preset in Lightroom.
We covered a lot of ground in the meeting and work will go ahead on it in a few weeks.

This photo is part of my Photo365 project where I take and upload a photo each day. The rest can be seen in previous pages of my blog.

Photo365 – Day 53 – Bright Ideas

As I was taking a photo of a flower in a vase using this bulb as illumination to create a deep shadow I suddenly thought…here’s an idea I’ve always wanted to do and never got round to it. An illuminating light bulb.
So I had a go. I may do it again when I have a free evening so I can set up the lighting better for the bulb , but you get the idea, and as a first attempt I’m quite pleased.
Two shots one with the bulb in a holder lit, the second with the bulb in its final position. I then merged the two in Photoshop, using layer mask to help the blend.

Photo365 – Day 52 – An apple a day

Many of my Photo365 project pictures are still lifes taken at home…it’s starting to make me realise I don’t get out and about enough. This is down to the monster I’ve created in ePHOTOzine – it consumes most of my time. So a quick snap here and there is usually all I am getting chance to do. That said the blog has ensured I’ve used the camera daily and I’ve tried to be as creative as possible in the space of time I have.

It’s more than I have been doing in previous years and I’m building up a healthy collection of potential stock images. As the weather improves I intend to go further afield and hopefully the blog will reflect this.
I’m on day 52, and today’s photo was a struggle. I was in the office till late and when I got home I wanted to watch a friend’s Channel 4 Dispatches program about hospital food before I start on the gallery to look at today’s uploads. So I’ve had very little time but managed to squeeze  in this shot – just before I ate it.

They say an apple a day is a healthy option – well it certainly was for the health of my Photo365 shot for today. I placed it on a red painted canvas and lit from overhead with a softbox to give the deep shadow underneath. I got the photo in one shot, ate the apple and here I am.
