Photo365 – Day 22 – Waterfall on the River Wye

This was taken today on a trip out to Bakewell with the new Tamron 18-270mm AF lens. It’s a close up shot at the 85mm setting of a waterfall on the river Wye. I like the fact that it’s three strips of graduated tone, from near black to near white with a mid tone grey in the centre. Almost abstract. The shutter speed was at 1/13sec to get a blurry but not too cotton wool motion.

This is part of my 365 day photo project I started on January 1st. I’ve taken a photo every day and intend to do so for the rest of the year. I’ll be posting them in this blog, so book mark and see you tomorrow. Feel free to comment or join in. You can start any day of the year, and maybe just do a month if a year’s too much like hard work.

Photo365 – Day 21 – Frosty Leaf

Today has been manic…just realised I hadn’t uploaded my daily pic. This was taken minutes after I got up and minutes before breakfast…what followed was a 15 hour stretch at the computer sorting out issues with the new gallery update.

Nothing special today but a snap!

Photo365 -Day 20 Egg & Forks

I’ve seen this shot a few times and decided to have a go myself. Usually the forks are the other way up so I have added my twist to it. I found two forks with interesting handles too.

The shot was lit from above and behind using an Elinchrom D-Lite with softbox.

Photo365 – Day 19 – A Touch of Frost

It was cold this morning so I took advantage of the weather and photographed the frost on my car. I walked around taking close ups with my 100mm macro lens. A car can provide interesting abstracts when seen close, particularly if it’s been raining or icy.

This one is of a join in the body parts taken at an angle to give the dynamic lines.

Photo365 – Day 18 – Light & Shade

As I walked into the home office this morning I was greeted with a low level sun shining through the blinds. Its the first really sunny morning this year and the feeling was good. After I’d done looking at the previous night’s photos in the gallery and my cruise around the site I decided to take a few shots.

I used the red glass vase that was used fro my photo in front of the venation blinds on day 5 And placed it in front of a radiator. The light and reflections was spectacular so I framed up and took this photo. I went on to shoot close ups of the neck against the wall which gave really intense colour reflections. I also shot through the glass and used a wide aperture to throw the view out of focus for a more surreal set.

I hope my Photo365 series is showing you that you don’t have to go far to be creative…it’s just a little imagination needed to spark up some ideas.

Photo365 – Day 17 – Home made light modifier

Today is the result of my first attempts with a new light modifier I made earlier in the evening for a portable hot shoe flash. It’s a ringlight adaptor which cost about £1 to make and converts a normal flash to give a ringlight effect in the eyes. I’ll write a small piece about how I made it in a future blog but for now I’m uploading picture 17 of my Photo365 project.

Photo365 – Day 16 – Padley Gorge

The weather was rubbish today – raining and grey, but I needed to get out of the house so took a stroll around Padley Gorge. Kids enjoyed scrambling around. I took a few photos.
This one was from the path looking up into the woodland. Shot with wide angle to get the towering trees leaning in. Your eye sees so much more in places like this.

Photo365 – Day 14 – New Desk

After about 10 years of use I decided it was time to buy a new computer desk. The one I’d been using was an old second hand one of high quality, black inset leather, five draws, real wood type thing. At the weekend I spotted a walnut model with a sliding keyboard draw and a tinted glass inlaid top. Very attractive in looks and price.

So I bought it and five nights later finally got around to assembling it and replacing the old one. While the glass is new (it looks all lovely and reflective, but at the same time reminds me of the windscreen of some chav with his ice filled, twin exhausted, alloy wheeled 206) I decided to take some photos.

The first attempts included the opened out keyboard tray and tight crops of keyboard and mouse with reflected screen in the background. Then I spotted some old mirror glasses that had come out of the back of one of the draws from the old desk. I have a pile of stuff to redistribute as my new desk doesn’t have draws so you might see photos of other bits and bobs soon.

I positioned the glasses at a decent angle so the camera was in one corner and took a few shots. I then thought it would be good to include myself in shot so I went to my ePHOTOzine profile and had that as background, and positioned myself so i was large in the glasses reflection.

And here’s the result. All good fun!

Photo365 – Day 13 – chickpeas

I love chickpeas…and as I’ve started to cook more this is one ingredient I’ll be slipping into meals from time to time.

So today I’m cooking Moroccan Chicken which includes a cup (American recipe) of chickpeas
And my photo365 for today started out to be a head shot over a plate of chickpeas as a pattern shot. But I then started to play around with the angle and then introduced a colander and ended up with this shot.

I used a softbox as illumination and then increased contrast to darken the shadow areas and emphasise the chickpeas more.
