Photo365 – Day 181 – Red

A busy old day means I’ve not had much time for my photo365 project and while I’m at home ideas are starting to become a little trickier, I really lacked inspiration this evening and then I thought of another theme. The Rainbow. So I will run a series of the colours starting with red. This is a still life taken of a red vase on a red plate on a red background. It’s also the first very red thing I’ve shot on the Pentax K-5 so I’m pleased it handles a difficult colour better than its predecessors. This is straight out of camera with just a small adjustment to levels.

Photo365 – Day 180 – Poppy over view

A view from above a bed of poppies taken with the Olympus E-P2 and a Holga lens I’m reviewing. The vignette is natural result of the Holga lens design.

Photo365 – Day 179 – Sneaker Wave

Another shot with a hand wave…taken for my photo365 project while out testing a new Holga effect lens for the Olympus Pen. You will be able to see a full review on ePHOTOzine in a few days.

Photo365 – Day 178 – Fields of red

I had a couple of red poppies appear in the garden today, and later in the day noticed Josh (ePHOTozine’s technical editor) had uploaded a camera review with pictures taken in a poppy field.  I hadn’t realised we had any in the vicinity but this one was just up the road in Anston. So off I pooped this evening with the Pentax K-5 and a bag of lenses. My aim was to takes shots different to my normal one in focus blurred background poppy shots. I had the lens baby (failed), the ultra wide (failed), the macro (failed) and the Tamron 500mm mirror (result)

I’d hope to use the Tamron with the 2x flat field converter to get super compression but it just wasn’t giving me what I wanted, so I reverted back to the 500mm alone (gives 750mm equivalent on the K-5).

So here’s one of the shots. The mirror lens gives unusual Marmite (love or hate) out of focus highlights. In fact it puts a halo around any bright object too. So the stalks took on a new look. I love the scrambled effect it gives.

Photo365 – Day 177 – Clover

I spent a lazy day today sunbathing and it must have not only frazzled my skin but also my brain, because i couldn’t remember whether I’d used a photo of clover in my photo365. I’d certainly spent one session photographing it…but I went for a grass blade instead. So here is today’s photo taken on the lawn from a low viewpoint of a clover flower. Shallow depth of field and back-lighting have helped emphasise the tiny flower. It’s taken with the Pentax K-5 and 100mm macro.

When I was looking through the past photo365 pictures I spotted that I’ve uploaded two photos of McFlurry ice cream. My memory is fading! I’d hoped to photograph something different every day.

Photo365 – Day 176 – Mirrors

I had six bathroom mirror tiles and made a box to create an infinite mirror effect. I tried various techniques to get interesting shots and struggled, but when I’d finished I decided to place four on the floor and shoot the clouds.

This is one of the resulting shots. Taken with the Hipstamatic for my photo365 project

Photo365 – Day 175 – wheat

Wheat growing on a path near the Worskop canal.

I took a variety of shots on my evening walk tonight and had difficulty choosing between a dead floating water rat, surrounded by McDonalds wrappers and containers, a low shot of my shoes with the path behind me or this for my photo365 photo.

I chose this because it’s not shocking or timeless and is seasonal. I can reshoot the shoes on an uninspiring photo day. I’ll keep the rat for another collection.

So back to the wheat. It’s taken from a low angle using the Olympus Pen EP2 with 14-42mm zoom and cropped to square format which suits the balance of the composition better.

Photo365 – Day 174 – raindrops

Raindrops on the poppy petals today. I’ll soon have exhausted the poppy patch by which time the petals will have all fallen off. Next I’m looking forward to a shot of the skeleton poppy head. That’s a few weeks away.

Photo365 – Day 173 – poppy bulb

Continuing my theme of poppy photos while I have them in the garden, this is of the bulb before it explodes into a large and colourful poppy. I included the other stalks in to balance the right side.
It’s part of my photo365 project.
