Photo365 – Day 162 – The Price of Gold

I was at the petrol station today and, as I’m sure you’re aware, the cost to fill up a tank is now stupendous. Will it soon be as valuable as gold? Perhaps that’s why they supply gloves!

I came back with what I’d intended to shoot…a bunch of shots of poppies, but it was this shot that made me think, so it’s today’s photo365.

Photo365 – Day 161 – Olympic tape

I bought some tape…like Sellotape… but from a pound shop. It’s quite annoying that they sell 5 rolls for £1, so it makes people think they have a bargain. But the amount of tape on each roll is so little that the total on all five rolls is probably less than on one good quality roll. And you end up with five card rings and a larger outer packing to get rid of. No wonder we throw so much junk away.

So today’s photo is the five rolls arrange in an Olympic ring style. I lit it with a ring lite off camera pointing from the top side down to get longer shadows.

It was taken with the Pentax K5 and 16-45mm lens at ISO 3200.

Photo365 – Day 160 – resyncing with water melons

Tonight I installed lightroom and am re syncing my catalogue. As I do this I’m working my way through a bag of water melon sweets from one of those old fashioned sweet shops. If you’ve never tried these and have a sweet tooth I’d highly recommend them. Yum Yum…

The shot was taken with the Pentax K5 and a Pentax 100mm macro lens.

Photo365 – Day 159 – Loading programs

I’m almost back to where I was at the weekend before the computer drive died…although still behind on the photo365 project I managed to squeeze a few photos in. And am playing catch up now. This was taken yesterday using the self timer to add to my above lap shots of me feeding my face.

This is one of my favourites deserts…not posh just a McFlurry – I love the taste of their ice cream…especially when it’s a special – this one’s the Oreo version. I was eating it as I loaded Photoshop back on to the PC.

It’s adjusted using Lightroom, which I reinstalled tonight.

Photo365 – Day 158 – grrr…f***ing computers

Day three without a PC so I decided to take it to David to see if he could fix it. Result – The Seagate 500Gb Sata harddrive is kaput. It’s the second drive to die in less than a year! This one just gave up without a real warning. No virus, no grinding noises. Luckily I back up my contents so it’s all safeishly (new word) saved on another hard drive.

This is a shot of the open case, positioned so I see the fans that keep the thing cool and ensure the drive doesn’t overheat. Thanks fans! It’s snapped on the iphone in hipstamatic mode.

Photo365 – Day 156 – Observer

My last blog was titled unlucky and the following night I was unlucky…my computer hard drive decide to stop working and went into a loop on boot. As the windows logo appeared I saw a quick flash of that famous blue screen of death and then a reboot.

I back everything up luckily but it’s still a major inconvenience. As a result I’ve not been able to post a blog for three days. But I have been taking my daily photo and today I play catch up from the work PC.

Sunday’s photo365 is a shot from the 40s event at Clumber Park. I’ve called it observer as the gent was watching a couple dance and I caught him from behind. Sadly it was a split second opportunity. As soon as I spotted him I framed up. in preparation for the dancers to come back together. But before they did he was off and the perfect moment was never to happen.

Photo365 – Day 155 – Unlucky

I went out in the centre of Worksop with the Oympus EP2 and 14-42mm zoom to do a bit of street photography. This was my favourite from the short session.
I’ve titled it unlucky for obvious reasons.

Photo365 – Day 154 – skull

I’m not sure why but skulls fascinate me. This one taken this morning on a garden table is of a medium sized bird -probably a blackbird or starling. It was found in a shed.
I used the Pentax K20 and 100mm macro.

Photo365 – Day 153 – Letter Z

The final part of my alphabet series is the letter Z taken in the garden of a spinning washing drier. I looked around for where the best cross over of lines was, and then span it round to an appropriate background.
Taken with the Pentax K5 and 100mm macro lens.
