Photo365 – Day 65 – preparation

I’m off to Focus on Imaging for four days. I’ll be taking my press pass, loose change to buy a coffee, Olympus EP2 to take a few shots around the show, business cards for networking and a pen to make notes. Just getting the things together before I go off to bed.

I’ll be accessing the site from my iPhone and have downloaded the WordPress app so I should be able to post daily.

Hope some of you get down to the show and come and say hello.

Photo365 – Day 64 – Starlings

Every morning I wake to the sound of starlings chirping and squeaking. I never really take much notice. but over the last few weeks I’ve become aware of the interesting shapes they create at the top of the bare tree.

Today’s Photo365 is a silhouette using a 100mm lens to crop in just enough.

Over exposed to ensure the sky stayed light as on auto it went dull grey and looked less of an abstract

Photo365 – Day 63 – stop…carry on

I didn’t post yesterday… it’s the first day I’ve missed..I didn’t actually realise until I stirred in the night about 4am. I’d had a busy day, followed by an evening with David doing Sound of Flak music, then I caught up on two days of TV I’d missed and went to bed. I totally forgot about taking a photo.

Dilemma…I’ve blown my one a day project…do I carry on or stop as failed?

I did take one photo on the iPhone just testing the upload feature in WordPress app, but I deleted it.

So now if I carry on it’s not really a Photo365 but a Photo 364 🙁

Having an undeceive moment I decided to toss a coin…head I carry on ..tails I stop.

So yesterdays picture is the spinning coin I just took. 1 sec exposure third attempt. I was lucky to get the head in the right place, but I would have preferred it the right way up!

Photo365 – Day 62 – Silver Birch

A silver birch against a wall. I’ve walked past this location almost daily for 9 years or so and never noticed the silver birch trees. Now I’m charged to take a photo each day for my Photo365 project my eyes are opening even wider than they did before. It’s a great exercise for visual awareness.

Photo365 – Day 61 – Bloom

I finally got round to getting an iphone. I’ve been wanting one for a long while…and apart from the usual stuff a phone’s good for, my first step was to download the Bloom app. I heard about it ages ago and watched a few youtube videos. I love the tranquil sounds. The app created by ambient master Brian Eno is a sound app. You touch areas of the screen and it plays a sound. Touch other areas and the note changes. Each note is recorded and plays back in an infinite loop. You can build up a beautiful soundscapes…ideal for relaxation.

And the iphone? Well, like with most modern phones, I can access my work email wherever I am…just must remember to turn it off when I’m in Bloom mode!

So today’s photo365 is my finger activating a note.

Photo365 – Day 60 – Smiths Flour Mill

Another shot from a series I’m building on historical building around Worksop/Sheffield
This is Smiths Flour Mill owned by one of the largest independent flour millers in the UK. Worksop has been their head office since 1906. It’s the back end taken from Canal Road with Chesterfield Canal in the foreground.

It was taken using the Olympus EP2 and 17mm lens

I’ve bumped contrast and colour using Lightroom to give it a tone mapped feel, but hopefully not too heavy.

Photo365 – Day 59 – an appointment

I had an appointment with a doctor at the hospital today to check my vascular system. As I sat in a small room waiting I thought |I’d take ma quick snap. I placed the Fuji compact camera on the floor with the timer set to two seconds and took this view. No I’m not sat on a toilet Wink

I was quite please with how aligned I’d got it.

Photo365 – Day 58 – ornament and fire

This is a figurine placed in front of an electric fire and then the metering exposed for the fire. The result was a silhouette of the figurine, so I used a torch to illuminate that. The first few attempts were either too bright or had reflections on the background.

This one was done with the torch firstly positioned on the left so the shadow projected on the back and then a small amount to the right to evenly balance the exposure on the face. A slow shutter speed gave me time to move the torch around during the exposure and has created the blurry flames.
