A marble resting on fingers, backlit using a soft box covered studio light.
I desaturated to give an almost monchrome feel.

Photo365 – Day 236 – hand painting
A simple idea where you desaturate part of the picture and make it look as though you are painting colour onto it.
I set the Olympus E-P2 camera up on a tripod and on the two second delay. Positioned the left hand in shot so the camera could focus on the correct position and then pressed the shutter and moved my right hand in to place to do the painting.
I then opened the photo in Photoshop duplicated the layer, created a layer mask on the duplicate. Desaturated the layer and then erased the mask so the colour layer below showed through in the necessary areas. I used a brush with a rough edge to paint the mask away so it looked more like paint.
I also selected the skin colour as the brush paint colour and painted that onto the bristles of the brush so it looked like it was loaded with paint.

Photo365 – Day 176 – Mirrors
I had six bathroom mirror tiles and made a box to create an infinite mirror effect. I tried various techniques to get interesting shots and struggled, but when I’d finished I decided to place four on the floor and shoot the clouds.
This is one of the resulting shots. Taken with the Hipstamatic for my photo365 project
Photo365 – Day 87 – The path you take
Taking a photo each day for 365 days is an interesting challenge and some days it’s quite unusual how you get to you photo idea. Today I was looking at a book on self portraits for ePHOTOzine’s book reviews section. I went to find the Amazon link and street price on the Internet. I searched the book title, and ended up pursuing a few sites with self portrait photos. One had a cool shot of a hand firing a cable release with the person in the background. It gave me an idea and as I’m testing a studio flash at the moment an opportunity to take a few more shots with the light. And the result is this.
I’ve intentionally made it dark and hopefully moody. I’ve added a texture layer too. The scratches on my hand and grubby thumbnail are a result of some gardening which has added to the overall feel of the photo. The item I’m holding is an old mechanical cable release.
