double quotes replaced by backslash on mysql update

I had a situation where I had to export a set of records from a MYSQL database on a live site into a copy database on a localhost site. After successfully making the export / import I found all the picture and url links on the WordPress posts broken. Closer inspection relieved that the import had replaced all the necessary double quotes around links, styles, etc had been replaced with backslashes.

If you’re in the same position there’s a quick remedy. the following myqsl statement will find and replace

copy it and change the italic parts to match your set up

UPDATE your table name SET your field name = replace(your field name, ‘\’, ‘”‘);

 appearing in WordPress posts following mysql database import

If you experience the problem of an  appearing in seemingly random places throughout you WordPress posts following a database import you may be able to solved it like I did by commenting out the encoding line in your site’s wp-config file:

Search for

define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8?);

and add // to the front:

// define(‘DB_CHARSET’, ‘utf8?);

This should make the Âs disappear.

Museum of Club Culture

I went over to Hull this weekend for a visit to The Deep and was pleasantly surprised to find a Folk Festival was being held. After wandering around the busy back streets I stumbled upon a building housing the Museum of Club Culture and an artist selling T-shirts with a gallery of his illustrations. Turned out to artist Mark Wigan who gained recognition in the early 1980’s for his illustrations for NME and iD magazine. I really liked the design of one of the T-Shirts so parted with a tenner and before leaving asked if he’d pose for a photo with the T-Shirt.

While in the gallery I noticed a selection of magazine clippings of David Bowie from 70s magazines. Many I recognised as I was a huge fan / collector from 73 to 79 so had most of the material on display. The magazine clippings will be displayed alongside a collection of unseen photos by Peter Hardy taken at the Hammersmith Odeon in the Ziggy exhibition that will run each weekend until 24 October.

Photographing the Perseids Meteor Shower

The Perseids Meteor Shower can be seen each year when up to 60 firework like streaks  are seen per hour in the Northern Hemisphere.  The event occurs mid July to Mid August with the most activity around the 13th of August.

I went out last night from Midnight until 1:30am and saw around15 meteors. I sat in a field with my Olympus OM-D camera mounted on a tripod pointing up at the sky in a south facing direction with a 9mm wide angle lens so it would capture a wide zone of sky.

I set the ISO to 800 and exposure to manual with a duration of 8seconds. I then took photos hoping that a meteor would appear during the exposure. The camera needed to process each frame to reduce noise between shots and that was also about 8 seconds.  I took around 300 photos and managed to capture two trails.

This was the best one

Snowdon 2013

Spent a weekend away with David Horton and his daughter Jenny and son Daniel. We went over to North Wales for a walk up Snowdon stopping in the Pen-Y-Pass Youth Hostel. We got the family room which was surreal…three bunk beds and an upright piano!

We headed off up the Miners Track to the summit. One person passed and said you can see the sea today. Things changed as we got to the final ascent just passed Llyn Glaslyn. The cloud came down and by the time we’d reached the top it was the usual limited visibility that I’ve become used to at the top. Coffee in the cafe warmed us up, but then made it appear colder on exit. After a few photos of mist we headed off back down taking the Pyg track back to the Hostel.

At the top

A drive into LLanberis for tea and a couple of pints at the The Heights and then back to the hostel for a few games of pool, before bedding down for the night.

After a hearty breakfast at the hostel on Sunday morning we drove off considering what else to do before going home. The weather was cloudy with showers but it didn’t stop us deciding to do Snowdon from another route. We headed for the Snowdon Ranger path accessed from Llyn Cwellyn Car Park, off the A4085. It’s a similar 8mile walk, but for me it was quite a challenge towards the summit as my legs were cold and, despite wearing decent clothing, I was soaked and my boots leaked too. After a pie in the cafe I really felt the cold on that descent.

I’m sure it did me good health wise though.

Most remembered phrase:

  • Look at that
  • Don’t do that
  • “Fireman Sam”….”I’m not saying ought about that”
  • Nice

Facts:

  • David, Jenny and Daniel talk in their sleep
  • Rain can be very wet
  • Snowdon Mountain Cafe Meat pies are great
  • A piano with broken keys can be frustrating when playing a tune
  • Jenny is good with angles
  • Youth hostel water has a high iron content

For the first time ever I was almost brought to tears with the euphoric sound of one of the tracks by I Like Trains. The multi layer guitar build ups and haunting voice just took me to an emotional edge.

On the opposite end of the emotional scale probably the funniest moment in my gig life was when one of the venue staff cam on to the side of a stage in between songs with a large bucket and asked if the drummer if any one wanted ice – kinda took the edge off the band trying to be cool and all rock n roll

A top event thanks to Northern Music and Tramlines. And the City Hall for providing such a great air conditioned venue.  And of course the bands who . Top day and now I’m all rocked out.

Olafur Arnalds live at Leicester Cathedral

Olafur Arnalds live at Leicester Cathedral, booked on internet and popped down – quite a rush to get there for 8pm and he didn’t come on until 9.20pm. Atmospheric and lovely gig but annoying women in front with big hair kept obstructing my view. I moved to the left of her head she moved to the left, I moved to the right she moved to the right. GRRRR!

Managed to get a few photos although the light was pretty dire.

The name attribute is obsolete

I got this error message using a name anchor tag when trying to validate a page in HTML5

The name attribute is obsolete. Consider putting an id attribute on the nearest container instead.

Here’s the code I had:

<a name=’anchor word’>

the solution is to replace name with id

<a id=’#anchor word’>

Quote ‘ in attribute name error

Quote ‘ in attribute name. Probable cause: Matching quote missing somewhere earlier.

I got the above error when validating a html5 page.

The problem was solved by changing

<meta charset=”UTF-8″ >

to add a closing backspace :

<meta charset=”UTF-8″ />

Hope that helps others with the same problems
