Really useful htaccess tips

I was finding how to prevent a page being viewed via a line in the htaccess file and stumbled upon this really good collection of htaccess tips and tricks. I’ve added a few other to my htaccess file.

Lightroom error when trying to delete images

Do you see an error message

The file named “xxxxxx.xxx” could not be moved to the Recycle Bin

when you try to delete a photo from your Lightroom catalogue

lightroom-delete-image-error

One way around this is to delete the file from the Windows directory and then go back to Lightroom and delete the catalogued image thumbnail. But that’s a work around and painfully slow. The better approach is to run Lightroom at Administrator level, as some files need Admin-level to be deleted.

Close Lightroom and reopen, but this time right-click the Lightroom icon and choose “Run as Administrator”

Now when you chose delete from within Lightroom the file will be deleted.

Sigur Ros live at Capital FM Arena Nottingham

Sigur Ros

I arrived at the Arena too late to catch all the support band, I Break Horses, who were playing behind a cloth screen so you couldn’t really make out the members. I saw two tracks by them and then after a long wait with a repeated minimal tune Sigur Ros came on. And the cloth screen stayed up!  I was wondering how that would be any good when the projections appeared and the ambience all came together. Although the band where difficult to see clearly the effect of this with huge shadows and images floating around in front and behind was incredible. And then after a few tracks the screen dropped to reveal an even more incredible set with light bulbs on stands scattered around the stage and an 11 piece band.

Sigur Ros

They played for about an hour and half, and then after a few  minutes break returned for an encore and another 30 or so minutes.

Sigur Ros

My highlight was a track that had someone signalling from a mountain top in the panoramic background screen. (Not sure what it was – I didn’t recognise it). The orange signal became bright and then one of the bulbs on stage started signalling back. The person was joined by others and eventually with a crescendo to music too the whole stage and screen were flashing. Quite haunting!

Absolutely stunning concert which was far more interesting than I’d expected. I tend to get bored after a few tracks of Sigur Ros by album. but this was an aural delight. Two hours later I didn’t want it to end.

Gary Numan 02 Academy

My attention was drawn to Gary Numan back in 1979 when I heard a Lee Cooper advert with Tubeway Army’s Dont be a Dummy used as the backing track.  I bought the album on blue vinyl, limited to just 5000. Weeks later he appeared on Top of the Pops and rocketed to instant success.

I recall having an argument where I said to a good friend that he was better than David Bowie (I’d been a huge Bowie fan but this was 1979 and Bowie was drifting into his Lets Dance era). It seems I wasn’t alone – synth bands had seen him on Top of the Pops and where in awe.

His tour was something else. Huge banks of fluorescent  tube backdrops created a very black and white stage set. And he stood in the middle surrounded by geometrically aligned band members all dressed in black.

I drifted from his music after his second album, but returned a few years ago to hear a very different rock orientated synth music that was  invigorating. Taking the heaviness of bands like Deftones but using synths to provide the melodies.

Gary Numan

Last night I went to see him at the 02 Academy in Sheffield. On stage now he’s really animated – a far cry from those static cool looking poses he used to pull. The mature Numan entertains in a totally different way. And the crowd love him. He still plays a few of the old classics, Down in the Park, Cars, and Are Friends Electric, but most of the music is from newer material including tracks from the new album Splinter and takes the formula that worked so well for him into a new dimension.

Hi support band Losers, liked to tell us they were called Losers ( about five times if I counted correctly). I’d not heard them before but was  struck by how cool they were, and they performed a set with some great twists, excellent rock band. Great vocals and interesting bass treatments (including some unplanned sub bass!). Liked them so much I bought the CD at the merchandise stand.  The bass player also commented that of all the people he liked Sheffielders the most.

Hawkwind 02 Academy

Dave Brock does the rounds again with Hawkwind’s 2013 Warrier on The Edge of Time tour. The whole album played along with other Hawkwind classics including the token Silver Machine.

Good gig and lucky as they cancelled the USA part of the tour due to Dave Brock stress. I read Nic Turner has registered the name Nic Turner’s Hawkwind and Dave my end up losing the right to use the name Hawkwind.

Not sure I liked Tim Blake playing a guitar style keyboard. I feel they should be restricted to shit funk bands and Thomas Dolby. In my mind it doesn’t look all that cool for legends of rock.

Nadine Shah live

Nadine Shah live at The Harley

Nadine Shah live at the Harley Hotel & Bar, Glossop Road Sheffield…supported by David Roch and Canal Boat.

A small venue with average lighting , but great beer (and so it seems food) And the three acts were excellent. Particularly liked Cloud Boat, who each used Roland 404SX samplers to deliver some amazing sounds to blend with their interesting guitar playing.

Good review of Nadine Shah here.

She offered me a glass of red wine…very kind

cURL extension required

I’m installing OpenCart on a localhost WAMP server.

I came across an error at Step 2 of the Pre-Installation stage

opencart-installThe status for Extensions showed a red – against cURL.

After a bit of Google research several options were found.

One was to enable cURL extension by going to the php.ini file and removing the semi colon in front of the line

extension=php_curl.dll

In my case that was already removed so the extension was supposedly enabled

Next check the the localhost index/menu page for loaded extensions.  I noticed that curl was not listed

After checking the php.info page (accessed from localhost index/menu page) details of curl were missing

I then read that I may have the curl extension. Apparently you need the one to match your php install. So I checked my version of php (found on the localhost index/menu page) 5.4.3 and downloaded the equivalent Fixed curl extension from here: http://www.anindya.com/php-5-4-3-and-php-5-3-13-x64-64-bit-for-windows/
Once unzipped the php_curl.dll file needs to be placed in the ext folder of php. C/wamp/bin/php/php5.4.3/ext

That worked and replaced the red error with the necessary green tick.

Logitech Duet – player not found

Why not I can see it!!!!!!

Have you been struggling to connect your Logitech Media player to your network so you can play music from your computer on your hifi – I have too. No matter how much you search all you find is more and more people with the same problem and an endless stream of answers and you try all the suggested things and it still doesn’t connect? Yes me too.

A seven step switch off and on routine with a rest to factory default didn’t work

Changing WAP to WEP didn’t work

Rebooting Router didn’t work

Taking out controller battery and checking MAC no didn’t work

Setting Router to different settings didn’t work

Moving Router / controller / player didn’t work

Going back / or forward on the operating system didn’t work

So here’s the definite answer to get the Logitech DUET working.

1 Unplug the Logitech Reciever

2 Switch off the Logitech controller

3 Hold the controller in the left hand and place you right hand on your left shoulder

4 Raise your left leg and place your foot in a yoga position on you right knee

5 Do not lose balance!!!!

6 Close your eyes and think of a nice place

7 Stay in the position  for 23 minutes

8 hopefully when you switch back on and try to connect it will now work – it has as much chance as any of the other suggestions!!!!

9  If not, go and search some more forums for another solution feeling far more relaxed

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Seriously Logitech really need to sort this out. I have a TV with an internet USB dongle. The Logitech player was picked up on that and I didn’t have to do anything. I can play music on my TV so why not on my HIFI?!!!

Illogitech! That’s why

There’s a saying RTFM (read the f***ing manual) And I would certainly advice that with this product. Most of what’s repeated in the forums is what’s already in the manual…and on one occasion doing what was suggested in there did get me back up and running, but the correct procedure doesn’t work every time. http://www.logitech.com/images/pdf/userguides/eng/Logitech_Squeezebox_Duet-ENG.pdf

Higher Shelf Stones

It’s bleak on the moors…a trip out to Bleaklow and Higher Shelf Stones with a stop off at the crash site of the 16th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron’s  Boeing RB-29A

This was taken while we (Myself, Dave Ange and Jenny Horton) stopped for a very quick and very cold food break. Still arguably summer so I was surprised we got showered with hail stones!
